Free Stream Parameters Estimation Using Heat Flux Measurements

AIAA Journal, v. 35, N 7, Yuly 1997, pp. 1238-1240

ABSTRACT: The feasibility of free stream parameters estimation using heat flux measurements is discussed. Nonlinear transformation of gasdynamical parameters to the heat flux at different points at body surface provides the independent data for flow parameters determination. The results of an inverse convection problem analysis demonstrate the possibility of freestream parameters determination for flows which are not selfsimilar. The problem condition can be improved by appropriate location of measurements governed by the informational matrix eigenvalues. The results from treating experimental data demonstrate the determination of 1-3 parameters for different flows (laminar flow around flat plate and compression corner).
